MODERATING

"Eat as healthy as you can most of the time, while enjoying all of the indulgences that life has to offer in moderation."

 LIVING

MODERATING

Moderation is about eating processed or foods that do not provide the body with much benefit only occasionally, and in smaller portions. It is not necessary for general health to completely cut yourself off of certain foods or entire food groups. All foods can be part of a healthy diet, as long as the diet is mostly balanced and full of nutrient-dense foods. Aim for getting a balanced diet full of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein, and incorporate a small amount of those not-so-healthy treats occasionally to treat yourself!

INDULGING

I bet you did not expect to hear that as a dietitian, my favorite food is pizza! It's true, in fact, the pizza in the photo below is one of the most greasy and delicious pizzas I have ever tasted, and it was absolutely worth indulging in! A big reason I decided to become a dietitian is because of my love for food. I love eating, I love trying new restaurants, I love treating myself to a mouth-watering sour candy, and I love enjoying a glass of wine (or two!) with friends and family.

Life is about enjoying the world around us, and that includes enjoying all of the delicious foods that people from various cultures have created over the years. Allow yourself to indulge every now and then on the foods you love, even if they are not the healthiest. Not only will this allow to you fully indulge in that moment of pure deliciousness, but it will prevent you from over-indulging, as people often do when their daily diet is too restrictive.

LIVING

Maintaining a balanced diet full of nutrient-rich foods plays a huge role in long term healthy living. This will help lead us in the right direction toward living our best lives, where we can have the energy to enjoy LIFE. In our daily lives, a consistently balanced diet and continuously finding ways to MOVE our bodies is what will set us up for success so that we can  go out and indulge on pizza and beer with friends on occasion, enjoy a dessert on birthdays, and even have salty potato chips as a snack when the craving hits. It is important to remember, while it is vital to feed our body the nutrition it needs to survive and thrive, there is no point in doing so if we are not going to LIVE and ENJOY LIFE. So eat that salty, sweet, or fatty food you've been craving lately and then get right back on track toward your daily balanced lifestyle, to keep you on track to long-term, permanent healthy living.
